INCREDIBLE PERFORMANCE BY THE KENYA 7S RUGBY BOYS IN VANCOUVER AND EDMONTON

The Kenya Rugby 7s team shone on the pitch in both Vancouver and Edmonton, coming home with both silver and bronze medals respectively.

In Vancouver, Kenya finished as runners up with South Africa topping the leg.  This was the first all African final since Adelaide 2008 and only the second one in World Rugby series history. Alvin Otineo “Buffa” and Jeff Oluoch had amazing outings and were selected for the HSBC “Dream Team” which majorly consisted of Africans. Daniel Taabu was named the DHL Impact Player in Vancouver with Buffa finishing 6th  in the table. It is fair to say that Kenya made their mark.

In Edmonton, South Africa was in pool A alongside Canada, Hong Kong and Mexico where they emerged victorious again. Kenya was in pool B, facing USA, Spain and Chile and they went onto meet Canada in the bronze medal game and came out victorious with Billy Odhiambo playing in his 50th tournament and fishing off the medal game with a try and conversion. It was also another great tournament for Buffa and Jeff O who again, made the HSBC Dream Team.

Both tournaments were a triumph for African nations and we were proud of our DBA players, Nelson Oyoo (Captain), Herman Humwa, Willy Ambaka and Billy Odhiambo who put on magnificent performances.

As the World Series commentator said, Kenya is the “most physical side of the tournament.” and “Kenya just keeps on coming.”
