The Fly Sixes Lacrosse League Launches Equipment Drive to Support DBA Africa Lacrosse Academy in Uganda

England Lacrosse and The Fly Sixes Lacrosse League in Manchester UK is stepping up to support grassroots lacrosse in Africa by hosting a lacrosse equipment drive during their Finals Weekend at the Manchester Regional Arena on Saturday 31 May and Sunday 1 June. The initiative aims to collect unwanted men's and women's lacrosse sticks to benefit the DBA Africa Lacrosse Academy in Uganda.

The DBA Africa Lacrosse Academy, a pioneering programme for youth sports development in Uganda, relies entirely on donations from the global lacrosse community. This kit drive offers a powerful way for players, teams, and fans to contribute to the growth of lacrosse in Africa, especially by donating sticks and other equipment that are no longer in use.

As a social enterprise committed to youth empowerment through sport, DBA Africa operates across multiple African countries, using sport not only to develop athletic talent but to deliver life-changing lessons, education and offer pathways to scholarships and further sporting opportunities. Their lacrosse programmes teach vital health knowledge, promote leadership skills, and create meaningful opportunities for youth to thrive.

This weekend’s lacrosse donation drop-off point will be conveniently located by the main spectator entrance at the Manchester Regional Arena. All donated sticks will be transported to Uganda in July, directly supporting young athletes at the DBA Academy.

“We believe in the transformative power of sport,” says the DBA Africa Director and Founder Strom Trentham . “Every small bit of kit donated helps a young person in Uganda gain access to equipment, mentorship, and the opportunity to dream bigger through sport.”

Whether you are a current player with extra gear or a retired athlete looking to pass it forward, your donation can make a real difference.

How You Can Help:

  • Bring any unwanted men’s or women’s lacrosse sticks to the Finals Weekend (31 May – 1 June).
  • Drop off your equipment at the designated donation point near the main entrance.
  • Spread the word – tag @DBAAfrica and @FlySixesLacrosse on social media using #GrowLacrosseAfrica

Why It Matters:

By donating equipment, you are directly contributing to lacrosse development in Uganda and helping to strengthen the grassroots sports ecosystem in Africa. With your support, DBA Africa continues to expand access to sport, inspire the next generation of leaders, and foster community through coaching and competition.
