Kevin McCool Memorial Fund Donates to DBA Africa to Support Kenya’s Running Talent
DBA Africa has received a generous KSh 680,000 donation from the family of Kevin McCool, an avid runner and sportsman. The funds will help support Kenyan long-distance athletes by covering race entry fees, transport costs, and running vests. This initiative aims to provide hundreds of runners with the opportunity to compete at various events in Kenya, furthering their careers in athletics.
Major Kevin McCool, who tragically lost his life in Kenya, was passionate about running and had represented Ireland in his early years. His family has dedicated his legacy to supporting sports development and youth empowerment through athletics charities.
Supporting Future Champions
The donation comes from a JustGiving campaign set up by the McCool family. In their appeal, they stated: To honour Kevin’s passion for running, his family has chosen to support charities that use sports to create positive change. The funds will be distributed among three Kenyan charities: Shoe4Africa, Complete Sports, and DBA Africa.
Building a Legacy Through Athletics
Kevin McCool was not only a dedicated runner but also 1500 metres champion in Northern Ireland’s Schools Championship. His family strongly believes in the power of sports to transform lives, making their contribution to Kenyan athletics a meaningful extension of his legacy.
DBA Africa, well-known athletics and sports development in Kenya, focuses on developing young Kenyan runners by providing them with the resources they need to compete. This funding will help promising athletes gain access to sports development opportunities, allowing them to showcase their talent on both national and international stages.
Expanding Opportunities for Kenyan Athletes
With the high cost of competition fees and travel expenses, many talented long-distance runners in Kenya struggle to enter races. The donation from the McCool family will ensure that more athletes can participate in key events, giving them a chance to be discovered by sponsors and professional teams.
“We are incredibly grateful for this donation," said a Storm Trentham from DBA Africa. "It will directly impact our talented runners by removing financial barriers and allowing them to pursue their dreams in athletics."
The Power of Sports in Social Change
The McCool family believes that sports can play a crucial role in youth empowerment and crime prevention. By investing in sports charities, they hope to provide young people with positive pathways away from crime and hardship.
