The Running Schoolboy Goes Sub-3 Min/KM to Record PB Over 5000m

Young Dennis Cheruiyot is proving to be one to watch in a crowded talent pool of long distance runners in Kenya. Known as “the running schoolboy,” Dennis has once again set a new personal best (PB), clocking an impressive 14:45 at the BingwaFest race held at Shanzu TTC Stadium in Mombasa.

This was only Dennis’ second time competing in the 5km distance, yet he managed to shave over a minute off his previous PB of 15:50. Finishing a respectable 12th overall in a competitive field of top Kenya runners, Dennis has shown that his commitment to athletics and his training plan are paying off.

The Rise of a Young Kenyan Athlete

Dennis' continued improvement is no surprise to those who have been following his journey. His growing obsession with breaking his own PB every time he steps onto the track is driving him to new heights. With every race, he is proving his potential to become one of Kenya’s next great long-distance runners.

Speaking after his record-breaking run, Dennis shared his excitement:
"I feel great about this new PB. Every race is a chance to get better. Now, I want to recover and train hard for my next challenge."

The Next Challenge – conquer the Standard Chartered and Nairobi Expressway

Dennis’ has his eye on competing at this years Standard Chartered and Nairobi expressway 10km events, while his next big test will be on March 15th at Ulinzi Stadium in Langata, where he will compete in the 10,000m race—his preferred distance. With the right balance of training, recovery, and endurance work, he hopes to continue his streak of personal bests and prove himself among Kenya's top young athletes.

The Journey Ahead

With his focus set on turning long-distance running into a career, Dennis is showing the discipline and determination required to succeed in Kenya athletics. As he fine-tunes his training plan, there is no doubt that he will continue to improve and make headlines in the future.
