Kenyan Athletes to Race in Dubai Thanks to DBA and Everybodies Partnership
Two of Kenya’s rising mid-distance stars, Fridah Ndinda and Dennis Cheruiyot, are set to make a mark on the global stage as they head to Dubai this week. This trip, facilitated by Everybodies Nutrition and supported by the Dubai Sports Council and organised by DBA Africa, opens doors for these athletes to participate in a series of international races and engagements that will give them valuable experience.
Kenya is well known for its exceptional runners, but local Kenyan races frequently lack credibility and significant prize money. Thanks to the partnership between Everybodies Nutrition and DBA Africa, Ndinda and Cheruiyot will have the chance to participate in multiple high-profile events, including the Rak Half Marathon/Skechers 10km on February 2, followed by the Buri2Buri Half Marathon on February 9.
These events will allow them to test their skills against world-class competitors while adapting to new challenges including climate and terrain, showcasing their talent far from the familiar training grounds of Iten.
Global Exposure Through Competitive Racing
The trip serves as a crucial stepping stone for Ndinda, a 10km specialist ranked among the world’s top 100, and Cheruiyot, famously nicknamed "the running schoolboy." Ndinda will also be representing Kenya and the Tujiamini na SportPesa initiative, which recognized her exceptional talent with a Gold award in 2024.
The Rak Half Marathon and Skechers 10km will give them a taste of competitive road racing at one of the world’s fastest courses, while the Buri2Buri Half Marathon will further test their endurance and speed in a race that attracts athletes from around the world. These experiences will provide invaluable insights into the demands of international racing, preparing them for future challenges.
Beyond the Track: Inspiring the Next Generation and Meeting Sponsors
Ndinda and Cheruiyot’s trip is not solely about competing. They will also visit schools in Dubai to share their inspiring journeys as runners, encouraging young athletes, whilst introducing Kenyan Running Culture.
Additionally, they will meet with potential sponsors, including global sports brand New Balance, who supported Frida with Kit and Training shoes last year These meetings are part of a broader effort to secure long-term backing for Kenyan athletes as they strive to become career runners.
The Role of Partnerships
This opportunity has been made possible by Everybodies, a key DBA Africa partner committed to providing meals and nutritional support to athletes in DBA’s programs. The collaboration ensures that athletes like Ndinda and Cheruiyot are well-prepared both physically and mentally for the competition in Dubai
This opportunity to races and high-level training reflects DBA Africa’s commitment to using sports as a tool for development. By facilitating opportunities like this, DBA is not only nurturing Kenyan talent but also developing them for further success in their athletic careers.
Championing Women’s Sports
Ndinda’s inclusion in these high-profile races underscores the progress being made in promoting gender equity in sports. At just 22 years old, Frida has already achieved remarkable milestones, including recognition through the Tujiamini na SportPesa Gold Award. Her Olympic aspirations for 2028 are becoming more attainable thanks to the support of Kenyan and global partners.
DBA Africa are committed to playing a crucial role in breaking down barriers for women in sports, ensuring that female athletes have access to the same opportunities as their male counterparts.
Training with the Best
One of the highlights of this trip is the opportunity to train under Andy Clements, a seasoned GB Masters athlete and coach. Clements, who has previously worked with Kenyan athletes like Ndinda and 100m hurdler Rukia Nursa, will provide expert guidance during their time in Dubai. His mentorship, coupled with the demanding race schedule, will undoubtedly help the athletes refine their skills and improve their performances.
The Power of Partnerships
As Kenyan athletes continue to struggle with limited resources and access to races, and opportunities to make a name for themselves, partnerships like those between DBA Africa and Everybodies are instrumental in nurturing talent, supporting female athletes, and ensuring Kenya continues to live up to the ‘home of champions’ tag it has proudly claimed.
This trip is set to be an example of what can be achieved when passion meets opportunity. With the right support and exposure, Ndinda, Cheruiyot, and many other talented athletes are poised for bright futures filled with triumphs on and off the track.
