DBA Wazi-Wazi Academy Draws with IAPS in U13 Friendly Match Ahead of Rosslyn Park

The DBA Wazi-Wazi Nairobi-based academy side put on a strong performance this past Sunday in a friendly match against the IAPS select side at Peponi School in Lower Kabete. Both teams showcased impressive footwork and determination, with the match ending in a well-fought draw. This game was a critical opportunity for the IAPS side, made up of talented international school students, as they prepare to represent Kenya at the prestigious Rosslyn Park competition in the UK.

For the IAPS side, this friendly match was invaluable. With only a few weeks left before their departure, it gave them crucial game time against strong opposition, helping fine-tune their skills ahead of the tournament. IAPS has a proud tradition of fielding competitive teams at Rosslyn Park, and this match was an essential part of their preparation. Notably, six players from the IAPS U13 team will head to the UK on school sports scholarships, adding extra significance to the game as they aim to further develop their skills in the lead-up to heading abroad.

The DBA Wazi-Wazi U13 team impressed with their footwork and ball handling. Special credit goes to Coach Mercy Migongo, who has been working with the Under 13 age group for the past three seasons at the academy. Despite the ongoing challenge of limited playing fixtures, it’s fantastic to see DBA Wazi-Wazi holding their own against the select side, proving the effectiveness of their development program.

In addition to the U13s, the DBA Wazi-Wazi U11 boys delivered an outstanding performance, defeating Braeside School in their first match of the new year. This victory was particularly significant, providing the boys with an excellent opportunity to compete against a strong and well-organized school side. The match marked an important milestone in the U11s' development, with the boys continuing to show tremendous promise under the coaching program designed in partnership with Wazi-Wazi, which incorporates elements of Japanese coaching, style of play and life skills.

DBA head of Academies Phillip Wamae ‘It’s fantastic to be invited by IAPS to help prepare them for their upcoming tournament. At DBA, we’ve just resumed our rugby academy sessions every Sunday at Kenton College. This year, our focus is on playing more regular fixtures to continue raising the standard of age-grade rugby in Kenya”

Looking ahead, the DBA Wazi-Wazi academy is gearing up for an exciting year of growth, development, and competition. If you would like to register your child’s interest in the academy or find out more about DBA, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
