DBA Africa, Australian High Commission, and Uganda Rugby Union Unite to Elevate Ugandan Sevens Rugby
Uganda’s Men’s and Women’s Sevens teams have received a major boost ahead of the World Rugby Sevens Challenger Series 2025, thanks to a groundbreaking partnership between the Australian High Commission, Uganda Rugby Union, and DBA Africa.
This collaboration is set to revolutionize Uganda’s rugby landscape by providing mentorship, professional training equipment, and international connections. With both Ugandan teams aiming to qualify for the HSBC World Sevens Series, this initiative significantly strengthens the nation’s ambitions on the global rugby stage.
Building Bridges: Australia & Uganda Rugby Partnership
Rugby Sevens is deeply embedded in Australian sports culture, with the country’s men’s and women’s teams consistently excelling on the international stage. With Australia set to host the 2027 Rugby World Cup, this partnership reinforces sports diplomacy, fostering long-term collaboration between Uganda and Australia’s rugby ecosystems.
Running from February to July 2025, the initiative will focus on:

🔹 Equipment Procurement – Supplying Uganda’s Sevens teams with Australian Government-branded rugby balls, bibs, first aid kits, water bottles, agility gear, and strength & conditioning equipment.
🔹 Team Management Education & Mentorship – Facilitating expert-led sessions between Australian and Ugandan rugby professionals, focusing on game strategy, player development, and team management.
Strengthening Rugby in East Africa

Looking Ahead: Uganda’s Road to the HSBC World Sevens Series
Uganda’s Men’s and Women’s Sevens teams will compete in the World Rugby Sevens Challenger Series in Cape Town, with two crucial rounds on 1-2 March and 7-8 March 2025 at Athlone Stadium.
With 12 men’s and 12 women’s teams battling for a place in the HSBC World Sevens Series, Uganda has a golden opportunity to prove itself against world-class competition.
With strategic international partnerships, elite mentorship, and enhanced player development, Uganda Rugby Sevens is poised for its biggest breakthrough yet.
