DBA Africa Makes Its Mark at KAISSO and Denis Diderot 10s
This past weekend saw a thrilling showcase of rugby talent for DBA Africa as our teams competed in two high-energy tournaments—the KAISSO Tournament at Kenton College Preparatory School and the Denis Diderot 10s at The French School. Across different age groups and formats, our young athletes demonstrated skill, teamwork and the growing strength of the DBA rugby programme.
KAISSO Tournament: Competitive Spirit on Display
The KAISSO Tournament saw our U15 and U16/17 boys step onto the pitch for a fast-paced 7-a-side triangular format. Facing off against well-drilled opponents, DBA teams played with intensity, executing crisp offloads and dynamic attacking play. The U15 squad, in particular, impressed with their sharp handling and game awareness, showing just how far they have come in their development.
Beyond the competition itself, the tournament was a great learning experience for all players, testing their endurance and decision-making under pressure. It was a weekend that reinforced the importance of teamwork, discipline and smart rugby—a step forward in the continued growth of these young athletes. DBA Africa also played a key role in ensuring the day’s success, hosting KAISSO and having our coaches and players actively assist in the event’s execution.
Denis Diderot 10s: DBA U11s Clinch Bronze
While the older boys battled it out at Kenton College, our U11 squad was flying the DBA flag at the Denis Diderot 10s. The tournament featured three categories—U11 10s boys, U11 7s mixed, and U11 7s girls—with DBA Africa fielding players across all competitions.
The U11 boys’ 10s team emerged as one of the standout sides, putting in a strong campaign that saw them reach the semi-finals. Though they fell to eventual champions LF Barbarians 1, the team bounced back with a dominant 5-0 victory over Braeburn in the bronze medal match. The win was a testament to their perseverance, skill, and unwavering team spirit.
Beyond the podium finish, the tournament was a fantastic opportunity to showcase the depth of talent at DBA. With at least one of our players competing in every category, the event was a statement of our continued investment in youth rugby development. DBA coaches were heavily involved throughout the tournament, with Adelaide and Anne guiding the U11 side, Knight Otwoma, serving as a referee, Amady leading the championship-winning LF Barbarians and Mercy coaching the Kibera Warriors Girls team. Their influence across different teams is a testament to the impact DBA is having on the rugby ecosystem.
A Weekend to Build On
From Kenton Prep to The French School, DBA Academy athletes left their mark on the field, proving that our commitment to developing the next generation of rugby players is stronger than ever. The experience gained, the lessons learned and the confidence built over the weekend will fuel the team’s progress moving forward.
A massive shoutout to all DBA coaches who continue to shape and grow the rugby ecosystem. Their work goes beyond just our teams, helping to elevate the entire landscape of youth rugby.
With every tournament, DBA Africa continues to grow, stay tuned for more action as we continue to push boundaries, challenge ourselves and raise the standard of youth rugby in the region!
